As more and more people receive the COVID-19 vaccination this year, many will be looking to resume activities that they haven’t done for a year now. At the top of many people’s to-do list is to take a vacation.

In response to the pandemic, the travel industry has taken many safety precautions to allow people to resume leisurely travel safely, whether it’s by air, rail, or sea.

Warren Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing has a look at five different ways to get away and how it might look a little different than it did prior to the coronavirus being in our lives.

  1. Guided Tours

Guided tours are especially popular in foreign countries. While international travel is limited, if you are able to get a tour here or abroad, companies are taking plenty of safety precautions. Among them, smaller groups and enhanced cleaning in vehicles used to transport you. You can also get prearranged tours to help avoid crowds at area attractions and restaurants are being carefully selected to ensure they are following safety standards.

  1. All-Inclusive Resorts

Finding an all-inclusive resort that is adhering to all safety protocols will put your mind at ease since you would be spending most of your time at one location. Many have added additional airport transfers to ensure that you’re not sharing space with as many people, check-ins can be done virtually, elevators are limited to only people traveling together, and restaurants and common areas are constantly sanitized.

  1. Cruises

Cruise lines are working on their plan to safely resume service. Among the safety measures you will likely see: COVID-19 testing prior to boarding, no-touch food service (even though you won’t be able to serve yourself at the buffets), medical-grade air filters, additional space around the ship for passengers, and revised excursions to account for fewer people and social distancing.

  1. Train and Air Travel

Both train companies and airlines have increased cleaning and sanitizing on board along with better air-filtration systems. Masks are now required aboard airlines even though you may not be socially distanced to other passengers. Amtrak has implemented new seating procedures to create as much space as possible between guests.

  1. Rental Cars

Rental companies have also committed to deep-cleaning each vehicle after its returned and making sure that no one else enters the vehicle until the next renter goes in. Check with your rental company prior to booking to see what safety measures they are taking before booking your car.
